How trustworthy are doctors? With all the faith we tend to put in the profession, there are sure a lot of gaffs and screw ups. Personally, I’m tired of going to the office and getting diagnosed based on information that I found on WebMD the night before. Today I went in the office and the “doctor” actually googled my symptoms in front of my face. I hate to sound like FOX News during a stimulus package discussion, but WHERE’S THE ACCOUNTABILITY? I mean really? Really?? Googling my symptoms in front of me?
It’s similar to the consulting profession, where we promise to be Subject Matter Experts on a topic that we have to take a crash course on in order to produce a less-than-best deliverable (the quality of which our client is totally unaware of, to our paycheck’s delight). Meanwhile doctors and consultants get paid ludicrous amounts, while those whose professions give back to their community are paid next to nothing. But then, these qualms are inevitable, and therefore futile… right? There’s no way to remedy the quality that gets lost in the midst of ignorant clients and stupid, yet excellent medical test test-takers.
